The Ancient Egyptian scribe is an extremely good career or job. Being a Scribe is a very important job. Scribes make it easier to organize society and transmit information by writing in hieroglyphics. Scribes learn about seven hundred different hieroglyphic symbols. You can start training to be a scribe as early as the age of nine. Any Egyptian of high rank can train to be a scribe including pharaohs. An Ancient Egyptian scribe is exempt from the daily toil of physical labor and is viewed with respect by society. Being a Scribe is a beneficial job to the people of Egypt.


There are many things that a Scribe is responsible for. If you become a Scribe you will be carving or painting on to monuments, temples, tombs, or religious scrolls. You will probably be writing on all of them. Some Scribes write spells on tomb walls and egyptians believed that writing had magical powers. Another important part of a scribe’s job, is that they record events in ancient Egypt for future generations to study. Scribes use hieratic script for business and legal documents, letters, and stories. They write books on subjects such as medicine and mathematics. In Ancient Egypt it was traditional and common for a father to teach his profession to his son, so many scribes were the sons of scribes. An Ancient Egyptian scribe is exempt from the daily toil of physical labor and is viewed with respect by society. Being a scribe isn’t the easiest job for someone to have, but it is a really essential job in Egypt!
